$37 million musical-turned-film 'In The Heights' dropped by Universal

Four-time Tony Award winner production 'In The Heights', (http://www.intheheightsthemusical.com/) wasn't as good of a film as it was a musical, seeing as though the film deal was dropped due to lack of celebrity appeal. Universal was far along in the development process, but because they couldn't bag an A-list Latino singer like JLo as the star, the Company ditched this production, making this the second far-along film this month to be cut from it's fleet.

Although the quality of the film adaptation to 'In The Heights' is unknown, the Latino/Brooklyn-spiced musical was rather a treat to see on Broadway in NYC last winter. Specialty songs that JLo or Shakira could have taken up on can be previewed at: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7671851
